Freak Week is the biennial spring spinoff of "Spookfest" where we spotlight kpop fanfiction and art that tackles taboo topics and themes. This space encourages the fictional exploration of these taboos, acknowledging the importance of taboo fiction in recreational fandom.
The original biennial spring Spookfest event was titled "Unholy Week," taking place the week leading up to Easter and highlighting both egg-themed and blasphemous taboos. While this event was primarily in the spirit of good humor, at its heart was a desire to create a space where fandom writers and artists could tackle more challenging themes than the Halloween-spirited annual fest. We have always believed in the importance of horror, taboo, and dark topics in the realm of fiction, especially in this current climate. We felt that by rebranding "Unholy Week" as "Freak Week," we would better encompass the meaning of our spring event. We have maintained our Easter Sunday theme of "oviposition" as a nod to our original event and openly welcome blasphemous fanfiction/art as well on any/all applicable days. This week is for the freaks and their fiction, and we count ourselves among them. If you feel uneasy about the premise of our event, this space may not be for you, and we urge you to consider our rules before engaging with any of the art this event promotes. Happy spring!
